The Japanese coasting steamer Matsamaru collided with the steamer Hideyoshamaru near Hakodate. The captain, the crew, and upwards of passengers perished on the Mateamara, was terribly rent by the violence of the impact. 2so details are available of. one of the ■worst shipping disasters on the coast since the dose of the war.
