The annual picnic of the Northcote school, -which was to have been held today, had to be postponed on account of the inclemency of the weather. The Committee met -jis morning, and decided to hold the picnic nest Wednesday, at Brown's Island, a special school holiday being granted for the occasion. The p.s. Clerks complain that salaries are too low, but the fault usually lies at their own door. The commercial -world demands expero assistants; almost anyone can wield a pen, but really competent men are few and far between. If clerks would only master the principles of bookkeeping and office organisation all complaints as to lowness of salary would instantly disappear. Stott and Hoare, the well-known business college specialists, who have been 22 years in Australasia, and who turn out over 2000 trained men wrnually, are now enrolling students for special -winter classes in commercial subjects, and we would urge upon all commercial assistants the necessity of taking advantage of same, and thus qualifying themselves for more responsible and remiiueratiYe positions.
