THE BLACKBALL STRIKE.

(By Telegrams.—Press Association J GREYMOUTH. this day. With reference to a statement made by the "Argus" that Mr. Leitch emphatically denies that the company offered to donate the amount of the fine, the Greymouth "Star" says that the manager, when interviewed on the question last night, said he knew nothing of the matter, but had heard that the union had been informed by Mr. J. A. McCullough that this would be done. He presumed, therefore, that the decision was communicated by the directors in Christchurch to Mr. McCullough. The miners are very emphatic in asserting that such an offer was made, and they desire it to be made public. ■ OFFER BY THE COMPANY. (By Te legrapn.—rress_ Association.) GREYMOUTH, this day. The "Star" gives emphatic denial to the statement that the Company has not offered to pay half the fine, and says the information to the Union was contained in the following telegram: "Chairman of directors is willing to contribute half the amount of the fine provided the matter i≤ settled forthwith."

Mr. J. A. McCullough states that the mines voted £50 and £20 weekly to assist the miners.
