Dr. Home came up from the South by the Takapuna to-day. Lady Stoat was a passenger from the South by the Takapuna this morning. Captain Brophy, of the Union Steam1 \ ship Company, came up from the South jby the Rarawa yesterday. Mr. W. A. Boucher (Government Po- | mologist) left for Wellington, via New Plymouth. by the Rarawa yesterday afternoon. On Monday afternoon last. Mr. Patrick Keenan was the recipient of a handsome marble clock suitably inscribed from his fellow officers of the Lands Department, Auckland, on the eve of his marriage. This afternoon Lady Plunket "held a meeting- at New Plymouth in connection with the newly-formed society for the Protection of Infant Life. Her Excellency will arrive in Auckland to-morrow morning. The Rev. C. A. B. Watson, of Stratford, Taranaki, who has been appointed Vicar of St. Paul's Church, arrived yesterday, and will be inducted this evening. Mr. C. T. Rout, of the Land and Income Tax Department, has been appointed chief clerk in the Official Assignee's office at Auckland, and will take up his new duties at the end of the present month. Mr. Rout has been attached to the Land and Income Tax Department at Wellington for some years, and his l present step is promotion. 1 Mr. C. Colebrook, formerly landing | surveyor in the Wellington Customs I Office, and recently appointed to the poI sition of Collector of Customs at Timaj ru. is resigning from the Government service to commence business as a Customhouse agent in Auckland on his own : account. Mr. Colebrook is at present on j a visit to Wellington. j A pleasant function took place at the 1 office of Mr. A. Hanna on Saturday mornj ing last when Mr. Abhott, who is leaving lon a holiday trip to England, was presented by the members of Mr. Hanna's I staff with a handsome silver watch. Mr. ! Abbott suitably replied in a neat speech ito the good wishes which his co-employ-I ees expressed through Mr. Moore. Mr. Abbott left for England via Vancouver by the Talune to-day. A pleasant social gathering took place jon Monday evening last at St. James's : Hall. Wellington-street, when a '"farewell" was tendered to the Misses A. and !M. Parry, members of St. James's Church choir, who are returning to Wales, after some years' residence in New Zealand. Mr. Walter Impett, choirmaster, on behalf of the members, presented Miss AnI nic Parry witn a lady's dressing case, ' while Miss May Parry was given a I "Peggy" bag. Both Mr. Impett and the 1 R< . R. L. Walker. M.A., who also spoke, referred in eulogistic terms to the valu- ' able aid rendered by the. two ladies. Dur. ing the evening, songs were contributed by Mrs. Edmonds. Misses A.
