HAMILTON NEWS.
(By TelegrapH.—Own Correspondent.)"* HAMILTON, this day. Mr. Henry Beloe Crawford, solicitor, j who came to Hamilton from Oamaru a couple of years ago and had lived privately since, died last night. During | his residence here, he had not followed j his profession, but took a deep interest in various public matters, particularly j the draining of the Fiako swamp and I the silting up of the Waihou river, in j which he lent valuable assistance. He was 67 years of age, was born at Western Port. Victoria, and came to New Zealand with his parents as a boy. He resided many years at Oamaru, where he was well-known. Mr. Crawford leaves a widow and four children. A lad named William Rathley was thrown from a horse at Hamilton East this morning and sustained injuries to his head and a broken arm. He was removed to the Waikato hospital for treatment. Mr. Northcroft, SIM., occupied the ] Bench fr*_- the last time at Hamilton • this morning, he having been replaced j by Mr. Cuttle, from Napier. Mr. Swarbrick, on behalf of the local Bar. thanked Mr. Northcroft for the courtesy he had always extended, and wished him long life and prosperity, and a. successful career in his new sphere. In reply, Mr. Northcroft thanked the members of the Bar, and said he always felt he bad had their assistance in reliability and truth, and anything they brought forward he could believe in. With reference to his future career, he had been, he said, practically all his life in harness, and hoped soon to take a holiday.
