PICNIC AT HENDERSON.

The animal picnic of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.. Ltd.. was held on Saturday, the 11th Inst., on the' fine-ly-situated grounds of Mr B. F. Cranwell, '"The Falls," Hendersou. a most enjoyable day beiug spent by all concerned, and a ieugrhy unit varied programme of snoits entered upon with -rent zest. A spacious marquee, erected by Mr Cranwell anu- assistants, formed the diniiis hall, and the catering of Mr A. W. Bussey. a local tradesman, proved excellent. A cricket match between mixed teams, ladies and gentlemen, captained by Messrs Bodle. and Holder, proved diverting to the spectators. Mr Bodje's team winning by a handsome majority. Luncheon partaken of. races by the juniors, ladies handicap, office juniors, aquatic sports, diving contests, swimming in order named, the last item providing intense enjoyment to the spectators, by the variety of styles of taking the water shown by the competitors. A water shute as a finale, the vehicle precipitating its living cargo into the falls basin, proved highly mirth-provoking. Mr Cranfell as a worker was energy personified in his efforts for the comfort of all. Teams, picked by Mr H. O. Nolan and Mr "Wallace, struggled for supremacy in a tug of war. a third trial proving necessary. A most exciting conflict Homeric in its intensity, ensued. Mr Nolan's team proving victors after a great struggle. Tea was partaken of. and a reluctant move made to the station. On the homeward journey the genial Mr Nolnn presented the juniors with prizes all round, much to the joy of the younger contingent.
