HALLWAY EXCURSIONS.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —In connection with the Railway Department of this Dominion, I, can show you a sure way of adding a considerable amount to the yearly income of that Department, as well as giving pleasure, health, and comfort to our people. There are many of our citizens who seldom, or never, have an opportunity of seeing the country. They say that railway travelling is too expensive; therefore, they have to deny themselves the pleasure of having a trip to the country occasionally. The Railway Department of the Australian Commonwealth—Sydney, for instance —runs a train every Saturday afternoon, at excursion rates, into different parts of the -country. A great many people are thankful for the opportunity of enjoying the scenery and getting fresh air; and in this way the Railway Department increases its revenue. If this was done in New Zealand, I am sure it would add some thousands of pounds sterling to the revenue, and be a boon to many of the people in this Dominion.—l am, etc., A FREQUENT TRAVELLER.
