NEW LIGHTHOUSES.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHBISTCHTJRCH, this day. The Hon. J. Millar (Minister for Marine) in the course of an interview said it had been definitely decided to erect a new lighthouse on Cape Brett, the most prominent point south of the North Gape. It •will be a "first order' light, and will be visible from a distance of 25 miles. It will serve as a guide to all the coastal boats and the Australian shipping coming round the North Cape. The structure will be reared to a height of 220 ft., so as to be clear of any fogs, which may be hanging over the land! An order has been sent Home for the light, and the lighthouse will probably be completed at a, cost of £10,000 in twelve months. Referring to the correspondence between Sir Joseph Ward and Mr Deakin in regard to the proposed lighthouse at The Snares, the Minister said that no reply had yet been received from Mr Deakin to the proposals submitted to the Commonwealth by New Zealand.
