The Recess Committee of the Univer- » sity Senate met to-day to consider the I results of the deferred scholarship ex--1 atnination. The following is a list of the successful Auckland candidates, who • have been awarded the scholarship:— ! Alan. Wallace, Auckland Grammar School (junior university), 4,191 marks; ! Hilda Kirkbride, Auckland Grammar ■ School (junior university), 4,143; Doug- ' las Leith Ross, Auckland Grammar " School (junior university), 3,872; Al- . fred*Barrett Jameson, Auckland Grem- > mar School (junior university), 3,473; L Arthur William Dempsey, Auckland • Grammar School (senior national), ' j 3,462; Norman Reginald Jacobsen, Auck- " J land Grammar School (senior national), 1 3,442; Julian Cornelius Brook, Auck--1 j land Grammar School (senior national), 1 3,199; Mabel Elizabeth Freeman, Auckland Girls' Grammar School (fenior na--1 tion), 2,987. CREDIT PASSES. The following Auckland candidates , gained credit passes:— R. H. Melville, 2,844; Nora A. Bell, 2,539; C. J. Hosking, 2,761. MATRICULATION. The following Auckland candidates qualified for matriculation:— J. Deilow, 2,472; P. S. Smale, 2,452; Hilda J. Adlington, 2,399; N y B. Spencer, 1,914; J. G. Poulgrain, 1,560. The following have passed the intermediate musical examination in the subjects indicated:— I Mary C. Clachan, in English and history of music; Caroline G. W. E. Rowe, in English, French, and history of music. It will thus be seen that the Auckland Grammar School has won four out of the I ten junior University scholarships open jto the whole Dominion. The winners 1 are: —■ ! Alan Wallace (son of Mr. G. Wallace, lof Lake Road, Devonport). He gained * a Grammar School Foundation Scholarship from Ponsonby School in 1903, and a I Senior District Scholarship in 1905. ; Hiss Hilda Kirkbride (daughter of the j Rev. 11. Kirkbride, of Onehunga). She j was an Auckland Girls' High School i scholar in 1902, and gained a Senior District Scholarship in 1905. Douglas L. Ross (son of Mr. W. Ross, of Waihou). He gained a Junior District Scholarship from the Waihou school in 1903. and a Senior Scholarship in 1905. Alfred B. Jameson {son. of the headmaster of Clevodon school. He gained ■ a Junior National Scholarship from I Clevedon School in 1904, and a Senior District Scholarship in 1906. The four Senior National Scholars-hips ] awarded to Auckland University District I have bean won by:— j Arthur W. Dempsey (son of Mr. J. •Dempsey, of Remuera). Was a junior Na- , tional Scholar of Remuera School in 1904, j and a Senior District Scholar in 1906. IHe won the distinction of first place in I the Junior Civil Service list of this year. Norman R. Jacobsen (son of Mrs. I Jacobsen, of Ardmore-road). Won a Founi dation Scholarship from Ponsonby school in 1903, and a Senior District Scholarship in 1905. i Julian C. Brook (son of the headmaster lof Birkdale school). He gained a Rawlings Scholarship in 10.02. and a ' Senior , District Scholarship in 1906. j Miss Mabel E. Freeman (daughter of 'Mr. H. Freenran. of Mt. Roskill). She . won an Auckland Girls' High School -Scholarship at Wellesley-street school in 1904, and a Senior District Scholarship in 1906. The registrar of the University, in I reply to an inquiry from Auckland, j wired to Mr Tibbs that the places won by Auckland Grammar School scholars are as follows:—Alan Wallace. 2nd; Miss H. Kirkbride, 3rd; Douglas L. I Ross, 6th; Alfred B. Jameson, 9th.
