TEACHERS AT CRICKET.
NEW ZEALAND V. NEW SOUTH WALES. BmiE TEAM'S GOOD START. A match ■was commenced tliis morning on the Victoria Park cricket ground between teaais representing the teachers of Kew South Wales and Xew Zea/a.nd. The teams were as follows: — Kew Zealand: W. Thomas (South Canterbury), X. Brodie (Wellington), Holland (Wanganui), H. B. Lnsk (Canterbury), I£. Murdoch, J. Fanning (Wellington J, A. J. Shepherd (Auckland), F. J. Ohison (Auckland), W. Braithwaite (Auckland), R. Darrocli (Wellington), and N. R. Jacobsen (Auckland). New South Wales: McMullen, Smith, O'Neill, Roberts, Deer, Hose, Magrath, She.ppard, Hammond, Manuel, and Tapp. Ohison, Uie Auckland skipper, won the toss from McMulJan, and elected to bat. liusk and Olilson went to the wickets, and the former, playing splendid cricket, was soon in batting form. The New Zealand teachers batted first. At the luncheon adjournment they had scored 141 for the less of three wickets: Lusk, 23; Ohlsen, 29; Shepherd, 26; Thomas, not out, 37; Jacobson, not out 3 26. Ohison, the New Zealand skipper, won the toss, and decided to bat, opening the innings with Lusk. The Canterbury rep. scored freely, and soon reached double figures. Lusk continued to bat freely, and scored 23 out of (he first 3"2 runs. A clever catch in the slips by Roberts terminated a fine innings. Sheppard joined Ohison, and the pair batted briskly. At -2{) Ohison failed' on Sheppard to run. McGrath fielded nicely, and Rose had the bails off before &heppard was in his crease. Thomas next joined Olilson. nnd started -with a good dispiay of big hitting. He. landed Smith's first ball beyond the j boundary, and the following over scored I two fours off O'Xeill. a Pydnpy first J grade bowler (West Cumberland). Thomas played brilliant cricket, and g:;ve a fine exhibition of big hiiting. The partnership with Ohison did not last long, the Sew Zealand being given out. caught behind. Ohison at the time of his dismissal w-is batting consistently, and had played a faultless I innings.
