Mr. A. Wylie, late of Walsall, England, the newly appointed City electrical engineer, has arrived in Auckland. Mr. C. Bryson, of the Wellington branch of the South British Insurance Company, arrived in Auckland from the South this morning. Mr. J. Simson, an old Auckland boy, arrived via the South on Saturday front Johannesburg, where he has been resident for the past six years. Captain T. W. Sharp, of H.M. c.s. Iris, and Mrs. Sharp, returned to Auckland by the Zealahdia on Sunday, after a visit to Europe. Captain J. Bernech, of the s.s Talunej has taken over__ the command of the .Monowai. Mr. M'Donald, third, officer of the Monowai, joins the Pateena as second. Dr. Mason, chief health officer, returns to Auckland from Cambridge to-day, after his 'visif to the Sanatorium. He leaves for Wellington to-morrow "afternoon. His Excellency the Governor, Lord Plunket, will probably not arrive in Auckland until Tuesday next, he having found it necessary to visit Dunedin. on private business. Mr. A. C. Bevington, editor of the Whangafci "Advocate," was last evening presented with several pieces of silver plate and a pipe, to mark the occasion of his approaching marriage. The pre- • sentation was made by Mr. Rusden, in the absence of' Mr. Hyde. Mr. Bl D. Moi'ton, who came out from the Old Country to New Zealand in the ship Lady Jocelyn 29 years ago, died at Kaitaia, Mangonui r . on November 25th, in Ms 71st year. The deceased ■was one of the original settlers at Katikati, and afterwards resided in various parts the province in the capacity of a native school teacher. Some five years ago he went to Onehunga, and, after living there until last year, left, owing to failing health, for Kaitaia, to reside with, his daughter, Mrs. Masters. The following changes in the Customs Department have been decided upon:— Mr. E. Carter, Collector at Christchureh, to be Collector at Wellington, vice Mr. D. Johnston, who is retiring; Mr. A. Elliott, Collector at Wanganui, to be Collector at Christchureh: Mr. W. F. Dickey, first clerk at Auckland, to bs Collector at Wanganui; Mr. Sibbald, Collector at Napier, to be Collector at Duneain, vice Mr. Chamberlain, who- is retiring; Mr. Nixon, Collector at Timaru, to ba Collector at Napier; Mr. C. Colbrook, landing surveyor at 'Wellington, to be Collector at Timaru; Mr. A. B. Reynolds, landing waiter at Auckland, to be first clerk at that port; Mr. W. Rose, landing waiter at Wellington, to be landing surveyor at that port; Mr. R. Walter and Mr. B_ Patrick, long room clerks at Wellington, to be landing waiters at that port; Mr. J. P. Ridings, tide surveyor at Duncdin, to be Collector at Invercargill, vice Mr. McDowell, who is retiring.
