AUCKLAND LICENSING COMMITTEE.
The quarterly meeting of the Auckland Licensing Committee was held at noon to-day. •Mγ. K. W. Dyer, K.M., presided, and there were present: Messrs. Graves Aicken, V. E. Cheal, A. Kosser, W. J. Eees, and M. Casey.
Transfers were granted as follows: — Star Hotel, Karangahape-road, from William Gibson Kae to Alfred Adams; TUarSes Hotel, Queen-street, from Timothy B. O'Connor to Thos. J. W. Buston; Railway Terminus, Beach-road, from Joseph A. Douglas to Jules Vollemaere; Suffolk Hotel, College Hill, from Catherine Little to Catherine Little; Fitzroy Hotel, Wakefield-street, from T. C. Christensen to J. A. Douglas.
Police Objections.—ln the matter of the Anchor Hotel, in which the barman had been fined for serving a drunken man, it was decided to take no further action. The case in which the licensee of the Commercial Hotel, High-street, had been fined for unlawfully exposing liquor for sale, was also reported on. Sub-inspector Gordon stated that except for the instance in question, the hotel had always been one of the best conducted in the city, and since the prosecution had been equally well conducted. Mr. Neumegen appeared for the licensee, and said that he had no objection to the hotel being placed under serveillance for three months. This was done.
Packet Licenses.—Mrs. E. Gibson, hon. secretary of the Women's Political League, wrote, forwarding a resolution in which the committee was requested to take steps to suppress the liquor traffic on passenger steam packets. Mr. Dyer said the Union and Huddart Parker boats were the only ones which the committee licensed. Mr. Casey said he was of tthe opinion packet licenses were not necessary on coasting boats. Mr. Dyer said the intercolonial came equally within the suggestion contained in the letter, and that was a proposal they could hardly agree to. It was agreed to leave the matter in abeyance until the Packet License Bill, passed last session, came to hand.
