WAIKATO SHOW.

" SECOND DAY.

(Continued from page 7.). (From Our Special Correspondent.) Despite the threatening weather conditions there is a splendid attendance today, and everything points to the establishment of a record. Yesterday's gate receipts were 50 per cent better than those of the first day last year. Light showers are falling occasionally, but the weather is not sufficiently bad to mar the attendance.

Mr S. Standen, the well-known Jersey judge, of Feilding, assured our representative this morning that the Jersey show compared favourably with anything , he had seen in the South. The champion heifer shown by Mrs Laud Wright was as near perfection as anything he had before him.

Willis Bros , Fitzwilliam has once again carried off the championship prize for Jersey bulls. Th,e £5 5/ prize given by Mrs Wright for the best Jersey animal in the show was awarded, to .Tier own heifer.

The dairy cattle are a very poor lot in Mr Standen's opinion. He notices a prominent 'defect in the very short teat. This he thinks may be, to a certain extent, overcome when milking machines come into universal usage.

Mr .W. J. Hall carried off the championship in pedigree Ayrshire with Prince of Wales.

Mr J. Primrose's Rosebery is the champion Ayrshire cow.

Holstcins are such a poor class, and in so poor a condition that no championship was given.

The judging of light horses was continued this morning, and the judge, Mr Russell, of Hastings, expressed his delight with the hacks, considering them as good as anything he saw in the South. The ladies' hack, over 15 hands, drew a very fine field of ten competitors, the red ribbon being awarded to Mr Storey's Carmelite, which was ridden by Miss Storey. The ladies' hacks, under 15 hands, were also a very creditable lot, Mr Day's Daisy, ridden by Miss Huut, taking first prize. The amateur judging competition elicited a large number of entries. Mr J. Casey, of Hamilton, was the successful competitor in each section, his judgment in the three classes coinciding with that of Messrs J. H. Scott and Fisher, the appointed judges. The following further awards have been made: — THE PRIZE LIST. ■Pony, 14 hands and ue<*ot. to be driven by a lady. Second prize, value £1 1/, given by H. V. Long, chemist, Hamilton.
