Captain Elliot presiding. The annual report was adopted as read, the allocation of the yearling trout and fry In the Walkato in the neighbouring creeks and in the surrounding lakes being generally approved, while the erection and stocking of a fairly large fish-pond on Mr. G. Clinch's property at Kimihia, and the contemplated erection of another couple of ponds was regarded as a step In the right direction. Office bearers for the surent year were elected as follow: President. Captain Elliot; vice-presicieiit, Mr F. H. Exon; secretary and treasurer, Mr. John Hushes; committee: Messrs. IS. Clinch, A. Crowder, W. Ellison, Alex. McKlnnon, J. H. Niccolls, William Parker and Kedshaw, with power to add to their number. The President of the Auckland Society was elected honorary president of the clnb, while —as a recognition of his services—Mr. v. Clinch, who undertook the management of the fish-ponds, was elected an honorary member. Reports showed that the yearling" placed last season in Lakes Hakanoa and Kimihia were doing well, more especially in the. former. A letter was read from the late secretary, Mr. C. Richards. J.P., resigning his position. The resignation was received with considerable regret, and a vote of thanks for his efficient services was unanimously passed. The chairman stated that there was every prospect of the Assets Board's property south of Morrinsviile being cut up for closer settlement, and the Maori block of 10,000 acres on the opposite bank of the Plako-nul would also be disposed of. With an influx of farmers the deer which exist there in great numbers would soon become extinct. The country_to the east "of Huntly being admirably adapted for deer, and several settlers having promised to do all they eoula to preserve any that might be put there, he moved that the secretary approach the Auckland Society on the matter, arid Inquire If two bucks mid four -does could be procured. The motion was carried unanimously.. Miners' Union. — At a special general netting of the Waikato Coal Miners' Union, Mr. Jas. Fnlton presiding over a large audience, the chief business under discussion was the subject of the federation of all workers or labour unions. A motion to the effect that a federation of all coal miners' unions should bo formed, and that all classes of workers should be invited to federate their various unions, and send representatives to a Labour Congress to.be held on a subsequent date, was defeated by 12 vptc<= the amendment: "That a federation of workers unions be formed." becomin" the substantive motion, a committee cons?*tin<of Messrs. B. Harris, senior, in the southern part of the township. Miss Ralph requested and obtained permission to remove the clay bank in front of the entrance to St. Anthony's (Catholic) Church. It was resolved to call for tenders for the erection of a concrete culvert over the Hakanoa stream, where it is crossed by the Great South-road, the recent flood having rendered the previous wooden -structure impassable. " | .Town question: of doing away with the road board and substituting a town board or borough council in lieu, appears to have been shelved. The apathy of the public in matters pertaining to local government is to be deplored, as unless a lively interest is taken in parochial matters progress must be retarded. I Volunteers.—The Huntly Rifles held a | paid daylight parade ou Saturday. The muster was a poor one. Captain Elliot was I in charge, and associated with him as in-' structor was Staff Sergt.-Ma.lor Macdonnell. A shooting match -with the No. 2 Garrison Artillery, Auckland, has been fixed for Saturday, oth prox., the conditions to be arranged on the arrival' of the visitors, who are expected on the Friday evening. Football.—A football match, under the Association rules, was played at Harrisville on- Saturday, between teams representing the Huntly and' Hamilton Clubs, the game ending in a win for the visitors by two ~oals to nil. Social.—A very successful and enjoyable social was held in the Ohiriewai School on Friday night, in aid of. the funds of St. Anthony's (Catholic) Church. The joint secretaries, Misses M. K. Kelcher and M. Ralph, were indefatigable, their efforts being well backed up 'by the ladies of the congregation, who provided a very nice supper. Sports.—Arrangements for the annual picnic and sports to be held in Mr Wright's paddock, under the auspices of the Waikato Coalminers' Union, on the King's Birthday, are well in hnnd. With good weather, a repetition of last year's success may be anticipated. Band Concert. —Next Friday (November Ist) Huntly will be visited by the Hamilton Town Band, whose members will give a concert in the Volunteer Hall. It is to be hoped that a large, audience will show their appreciation of the band's enterprise, and accord it the support necessary to help the band to defray the costs entailed by the competitions for which it is catered.
