PRISONERS SENTENCED.
WELLINGTON, this day. To-day three prisoners, who had pleaded guilty in the lower Court, came up for sentence before Mr. Justice Button. William Douglas Ayson, charged with the theft of lodge money at Masterton, was admitted to probation and ordered to pay costs. Mr. Wilford said the accused was well known and highly respected in Masterton. He was a member of the Stonehenge Lodge of Druids, the funds of which were misappropriated. He did not wish to press the matter. James Baldwin, a youth charged with breaking and entering at Hawera, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment, the judge refusing, an application for probation, as Baldwin's record was not good. David Davis Trow, who had pleaded guilty to a breach of the prohibition Act, was remanded to Napier, where he is to be tried on another and more serious charge.
