FIRE-FIGHTING UNDER DIFFICULTIES.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
CHRISTCHURCH, this day.
On Saturday evening a fire occurred in Rolleston-street, Linwood, in a tenroomed two-storey house, occupied by Mr J. C. Cameron. There was some delay in giving the alarm, and when the engines arrived the fire had a strong hold. The water supply was so situated that the first engine worked from a tank in Worcester-street, and sent the water on to another engine 1500 yards away. The latter sent it on to the fire. The back portion of the house and a portion of the roof were destroyed. The fire broke out again in the same house at 11 o'clock, but the outbreak was subdued. The house was insured in the Atlas office for £800, and the furniture, all of which was saved, for £300. The damage is estimated at £400.
