WAGES OF SHOP ASSISTANTS.
SYDNEY, October 11. Thr Arbitration Court award for snop assistants in city and suburban areas has fixed the wages of assistants up to the age of 23 as follows —Males, from 5-/ to 45/; females, 5/ to 25/. It is computed that the award will involve an aggregate increase in wages of £50,000 yearly.
The Collector of Customs has received the following telegram:—"The Governor has declared that the mainland oyster beds between the north-easternmost point of East Tamaki Heads and the north-west point of Orakei Point are open, but be has no power to extend the open season beyond the end of this month.
