EX-MINISTER AND PUBLIC FUNDS.
(Received 10.25 a-nu) PERTH, this day. Mr. Brown, a member for Perth in the legislative Assembly, accused Mr. lllingworth, ex-JVLLA. and es-Sta-te Treasurer, of having loaned to himself from the Savings Bank, through a dummy, a sum of £4300, out of Which he alleged Mr. Illingworth made a profit of £3500 -in sis months. He (Mr. Brown) admitted that the loan "was refunded, but contended that ro man of honour had the right to use the Government funds to finance himself. The State Treasurer, referring to the charge, said it was crhel to bring such charges against a man vrho -was now Iving at death's door in a private asylum in Melbourne, especially as the affair occurred in 1901. He (the State Treasurer) had gone through the papers, but had found nothing to support the charge that Mr. Illingworth had wrongly used his position. The transaction, so far as <lhe Treasury -was concerned, appeared a perfectly clean security, with ample money, and was duly repaid, with the specified interest.
