Last year George How Chow, a wealthy Chinaman, married a European and left Gisborne with his family on a trip to China, intending to stay some time. The family, not earing for the change, returned to Gisborne, but the husband, having, invested funds there, remained to realise. How Chow, failing subsequently to return to New Zealand, his wife revisted Hong Kong, having in the meantime received disquieting news. All efforts to find her husband failed, and it is feared that he has met with foul play from lawless bands. Mrs How Chow returned to Gisborne with a son, aged 11, who had been placed in college at Hong Kong.
