ANOTHER CASE.
Mr John Davis, marine engineer, who arrived in Melbourne on 10th inst. from England by the R_MJ3. Omrah, under engagement to the Adelaide Steamship Company, very soon found that there was considerable trouble to be found in Melbourne if one ignored measures of ordinary prudence. In Lonsdaie-street the night after his arrival Air Davis was suddenly felled by a man, who then took from him a watch arsd chain.. £3 10/ in gold, a cigar case, a steamboat ticket and a pocket book, vaiued in all at £8. The assault was witnessed by a passer by. who was able to furnish a description of the perpetrator. Detectives Hawkins and Commons, in Elizabeth-street, arrested Wm. Thompson, alias Harris, alias
"Lightning." They took him to the detective office, where he was identified as the assailant of Mr Daris.
