MANUKAU COUNTIES' CONFERENCE .

The annual conference of the loca* bodies in the Manukau Uounty/ was held in the rooms of the Agricultural Association to-day.: Mr. X iiiUea (Pukekohe East) presided; and': there were present: Messrs. It was unanimously'decided to place on record the valuable services rendered to local bodies by the late Mr. JVU 1 M, Kirkbride, M.H.R. . 'V: . .:;.

Noxious Weeds:—A resblution was ear? ried "that in .the opinion of this Cobference the Noxious Weeds Act should be progressively administered, and that owners of property should, be compelleil to clear a certain .portion of their property every year;" .It was also decided that pressure be brought to bear on the Government to clear all Orpiwii lands of noxious weeds..

Small Birds.—lt was decided that ; all the local bodies in the Manukau County, take united action to poisoa birds' in the month of July in each year, and that the Government be asked to, distribute poisoned, grain to the --Boards'- at cost price. Condemned Stock.—lt. ' was resolved that condemned stock should be valued at full market Tates instead of at boiling down rates as' at present Via this connection it was. pointed oat by a number of speakers that if a beast which wa» ailing was bought by a farmer he hesitated about informing the inspector on. account of the small value'placed upon the beast, whereas,.' if a fair market value was allowed, he would have no object in keeping the disease quiet.'
