WAIHI NEWS.
(By Telegraph,—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, this day. I understand that the contemplated alteration in the railway service between Paeroa and Waiai will only apply to goods traffic. The great esteem in which the late Mr. B. Morgan was held in Waihi was fully evidenced to-day, when an exceptionally large number of citizens, representing every class of the community, attended the luneral. The Masonic, Oddfellows, and D'oresters' Lodges were present iv large numbers. The Rev. X. W. Newbold officiated at the grave, and a Masonic burial service was conducted by W.M. Bro. Crauford Brown. The following have beeu selected to represent the Walhi Golf Club against I'aeroa at Paeroa on Saturday next: Messrs. i'cCormick, Deck, Jackson, Stewart, Gray, Aicken, Wynyard, Cave, Piggin, Uooch, :<oakes, Taylor, and Russell. The ladies' team selection is in the hands of a ladies' committee.
The weekly meeting of the Rugby Union was held last night. Mr. IJ.1 J . Corbett was elected to fill the vacancy on the committee caused by Mr. Hill's resignation. Messrs. Farley and McConuell .were granted permission to play in the senior grade Mr Tetley (a junior) was allotted to the Mataura Club. In the second grade competition a fourth round was added. A letter' was received from the secretary of the Technical School Committee re playing .a. benefit match in aid of the school movement Consideration was deferred until next meeting. The union decided to play a representative match, Tauranga v. Waihi, at Waihi, on August 17. The following matches were arranged for Saturday next- First grade, Waitete v. Waihi; second "grade, Waltete v. Mataura; third grade Wajtete .v. Waihi. The following team will represent the Waihi Foiotball Club m their match against Waitete on the Recreation Reserve on Saturday nest: Pull-back, Ban- threequarters, Hanna, McSvreeney Goosmau" five-eighths, Forster; half-back, Thomas; wings, Kneebone and Hyde; forward* .farley, Robers, McConnell, Cooke, Kneebone, Ottoole, and Noakes.
