WATER CHARGES TO LOCAL BODIES.
PARXELL'S DISSATISFACTION.
The refusal of the Auckland City Council to reduce the price of water to the borougn, was the subject of comment at the Parnell Council last evening.
i Mr. Lusk, in discussing the stand taken by the City Councii, that they did not yet have the Waitakerei scheme in full operation, considered that under any circumstances an increase in consumption from 17,000,000 to 45,000,000 gallons constituted a good case for a reasonable reduction.
Mr. Lundon expressed the opinion that deputations to the City Council were a pure waste of time. He suggested that all the local bodies drawing water from the city supply approach the City Council by combined action. Singly they had absolutely no chance.
Mr. Briggs suggested that they should look further afield for a cheaper supply. Why not approach the Manukau Water Trust?
The Clerk (Mr. Gilmer) said that the Trust's charge -was 1/ per thousand gallons, as against 10d. and 1/ by the City. The Manukau Water Trust was, however, a joint stock affair, and all who joined it would participate in the profits.
