The epidemics among c—Qdren in the. eifcy and suburban schools of measles, ■whooping-cough, and other minor com.-" plaints has been responsible following circular from the Boaxd to school carornittees:—."The District Health Officer directs that, in view bf the recent epiden_ie_ of measles and whoopingcough, the schools shall "be thoroughly cleansed nex± week —the week of the __idv?i_rter holidays. The cleansing which he recommends is as follows-:— The. floors to be scrubbed and then washed (together with alf desks and Other woodwork) with a solution of carbolic, using one pint of Calvert's carbolic to three and a-half gallons of warm ■water (a. kerosene tin). It may be necessary to have all desks and furniture removed into the school yard for the purpose of being thoroughly cleansed. The caretaker should be able to undertake the work with assistance, and with extra xemnneration. The Board desires rfchart cortmrittees will be good enough to take prompt and efficient action to comply -with the Health Officer's request, so as to ir___im__e the risk of future epidemic when the school shall re-open on Monday, July Ist. The Board will- pay to committees, upon production of certified vouchers, one half the actual eoet of the Tvork recommended by the Health Officer/ Some comment was made on the closing of the Mount Bden School by the committee* without reporting the fact to tbe Board.
