___*;. JUSTICE COOPER'S EEMARKS. (By Telegraph-—Press Association.) WELLKGTO"**;, this day. Ihe Hon. Br. Find lay, Mr. M. ChapBian,and Mr H. B. Bell, who have been appointed King's Counsel, took the formal oath in the Supreme Court to-day. *Mr. Justice Cooper, in the course of a Jew remark?, said the Bar in New "Sealand had been distinguished for a great Saumber of years for the learning, ability, _und high sense of honour which was one pf the traditions of the English Bar. The occasion was one to be fairly termed historic The gentlemen who had just taken the oath were three of the most distinguished leaders of the profession, and he regretted that Mr. C. P. Skerrett, iwho was also held in the highest respect, •was not present to take the oath also. He believed that throughout the colony the appointments would be received with satisfaction by members of the Bar, by Boiieitors, and by the general public. This occasion, which brought the New Zealand Ear on a level with the English Bar, •narked the attainment of a status lor -trhieh this country had been -waiting for _rumy years. ____,
