ARBITRATION COURT INTERPRETATIONS.
I' Answering a request for interpretation of the Auckland United Flour Mills I industrial agreement, the President of the Arbitration Court'(Mr. Justice Sim) has intimated that an engin* driver 'during the shift when he is the only engine driver at the mills is the man in [Charge of th e engine within the meaning of the agreement, and is entitled to be paid 1/2 per lionr. In regard to thp Auckland Sawmillcrs' industrial agreement, the Court was asked to state if a boy employed on a hand-mill was entitled to receive the minimum rate of wages set forth in the agreement for that class of work. The
i Court held that if an agreement on the subject had not been made between the Union officials and the employees, a boy so employed was entitled to the minimum wage for the class of work he was employed to do. 1 Upon an application for interpretation of the Auckland Shipbuilders' award the j Court replied that if a casual band commenced docking at 10 a.m., and finished at 12 noon, and afterwards was employed at caulking for four hours on the same day. the minimum of 5/ shou— be first paid for the two hours' aoc-King, and for the other work payment should be made at the rate fixed by the award
