WAIHI NEWS.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, Monday. The anniversary of the Primitive Methodist Sunday School, which was held yesterday, proved to be a very successful function. The proceedings in the morning were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Wedderspoon (Auckland), in the afternoon by the Rev. J. Salter, and in the evening by the Rev. T. R. Woollaxall. The singing was a special feature, under Mr. A. Low.
The Waihi Federal Band gave an openair cone.-rt yesterday in aid of au organ fcr the hospital. The collection amounts! to £s. which carries a Government subbidv. ' WAIHI, Saturday. A new litter for the Grand .Tunetiou Company arrived here this morning. The litter is of the very latest type. Dr. Purdy, Health Inspector, forwarded a report to a meeting of the School Committee last night dealing with the ventilation of the Central School. He considered that more ventilation was necessary tni-OTighout the school, and that lixture windows in some of the class room-, should be made to'open. He e-si>re- J satisfaction with the sanitary arrangements. It was decided the. report should be forwarded 10 the r-oard of Education. The architect reported on his interview with Mr Warden Bush, wit- a view to securing additional land at the Bast End School. The Warden would only agreo to the request provided the Board surrendered two acres at the back of the Central School. The letter was received. Mr Nicholson moved, "That this committee if. of opinion tuat an area of four acres is quite small enough for the Easl end School, and strongly protest against surrendering any portion "f the ground of the Central School, and ask the Mayor to convene a public meeting to bad; up the position taken la the matter-." Tr.is was seconded by M.- Woo!----loxall. and carried. A letter was: received from the Seddon Memorial Committee, statins that tdey could not s.-c their way to hand over the funds in hand for a tccnnical school. Mr Nicholson moved, "That the time has arrived to build an iufant school at the rear of the High School, and that another annexe be added to the East End School " This was seconded by Mr Murray aua carried.
The hospital trustees last night accepted tenders tor supplies as follows: — Bread. Mr li. Roberts: funerals, Mr U. S. Saunders; milli. Thames Valley Company; coal, Mr It. Arscott; groceries. Messrs C'orringham and McGregor. In deflniny the duties of doctors, it was decided Hint Dr. Deck lv> assistant medical officer, to work under Dr. Claridge's supervision. A suggestion made by Dr. Claridge, regarding the necessity for providing sleeping accommodation in ;i covered in right-of-way, between the hospital and nurses' home, for nurses on mght duty, was rei'erred to House Committee. It was decided to write to the Council, asking that remittance of £250 should he forwarded to hospital trustees. It was reoorLed that a slight difference be-t-ween the matron and Dr. Deck had existed, but the matron had made a statement that she had not said anything with the intention of making a reflection on Dr. Deck, and she was sorry that he should have been hurt by any statement she had made. She further agreed to sink all difference for the future, and work amicably with the doctor.
