THE NEW ZEALAND FOOTBALLERS.
WE__N"GTON OPINION OF THE TEAM. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, this day. Wellington Rugbyites in general express their satisfaction .with tlie New Zealand team selected to meet N.S.W. and. Queensland and a combination of the forces from those States in July and August next. The exclusion, however, of such great forwards as Cross and Byrne is commented upon, more particularly when it is reported that Mr. D. Gallaher, of Auckland, who saw thelatter playing iv a club match last Saturday, was very favourably impressed with his capabilities. Seeling at his best was never superior to the Petone representative as he is playing now. It is said that Byrne was not considered because he had not signed the declaration im the day the team was chosen, it will leave behind it one of the dashiest loose forwards in the colony. Exception is taken in different quarters to the inclusion of George Spencer, Tyler, Cunningham, and Johnstone. Followers of the game say that the attacking power of the 1903 team and the "All Blacks" was much deadlier than is to be found in the present combination. The defence, how- j ever, seems to be sounder and solider.
