CITY DRAINAGE SCHEME.
J The outfall for the city sewerage at i ©rakei Point tinder the scheme sugfgested by Mr. Mudgley Taylor, endorsed by Mr. W. E. Bush, city engineer, arid I adopted by the Council, was inspected by the Mayor and a number of councillors yesterday afternoon. Messrs. A. M. Myers (Mayor), L. J. Bagnall, C. Grey, R. Farreil, P,. Tudehope, and G. Knight (councillors), Mr. IL W. Wilson (town clerk), \V. E. Bush (city engineer), and W. H. Hamer (Harbour Board engineer), visited the site in the Harbour Board's launch, and after landing at Orakei Wharf, proceeded to the native reserve at the head of the bay, where an area, of about 100 acres is to be acquired for storage tanks, and if found necessary, later on, septic tanks and bacteria beds. The area of flat land in, the vicinity being insufficient, the remainder -will have to be made up by {reclamation. Parliamentary sanction, will be necessary to secure' the land, and a bill will be promoted to that effect as soon as possible, the survey being proceeded with at once. The charte attached to Mr. Bush's report on the scheme showing the floatage experiments carried out in December and January last, were exhibited and explained* to the members on the spot. Mr. Bush expressed the conviction that with the outfall taken out 700 ft. or SOOft. the sewage would be discharged into the tidal Current, and would be carried out to the open sea through the Rangitoto channel. As Mr. Bush has pointed out. it is advisable that the adjoining bodies should participate in the scheme, and a conference of suburban bodies and representatives of the City Council will be held next week to diseus3 the matter.
