WELLINGTON, this day. On the recommendation of the" Coromandel County .Council the Minister for Mines -has approved of small subsidies tt enable A. McLean and G Lindsay to drive 100 feet of the tunnel at the Andy special claim, Cabbage Bay and W. H. Dunn and W. X, Wells, to drive. 150 feet of tunnel at the Su_nvside special claim Upper Coromandel. The Minfeter for Miiies has refused an application for a subsidy towards driving a tunnel a distance of 150 feet on the Hauraki Cinnabar mine, Thames, as most of- the work was completed prior to the receipt of the application, and it is not tie practice of the Department to pay for work done before a subsidy is grantefl-

THAMES, this day. The result of No. 2 sample, taken from the winze which is now being sunk on lode, gives the excellent return of £7 14/6 per ton. The assay was made at Waihi'School of Mines.
COMPLEX ORE REFTNESTG.
A demo-stratibn of the treatment of refractory ; ore by the Complex Ore Refining Process took place to-day at the American School Laboratory, Princesstreet- Mr. E.Caupley Alexander treated ore from Zeehan mine, Waiomo. A large number of gentlemen interested in mining witnessed the working of the process.
