RAGLAN NEWS.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) RAGLAN, Friday. The Te Mata Tennis Club was entertained by the Raglan Club last Wednesday afternoon, when a series of friendly games was played by members of the two teams. Raglan proved the winners, the visitors not being used to playing on an asphalt floor. The visiting ladies played a good game, hoidlng their own with the local ladies, some of them exhibiting very good form. The following did battle for Te Mata:—Mrs Gibson. Misses McCracken (2). Foster Messrs Foster, McCracken (2). Gibeon, and Jerome. Raglan was represented by Mrs Rawlinson, Misses Blackett, Cussen and Husband, Messrs Gilmour, Thomson, Bressey, Rawlinson and Gordon. During the afternoon refreshments were handed round by a ladies' commiiitee. At the conclusion of the games congratulatory speeches were indulged iv by members of the -visiting team expressive of a most enjoyable day's outing. Suitable replies v. eie male by members of the local team. A meeting of chiefs interested In the Moerangi block was held at Whatawhata on tin- -Ist uit. This block, comprising <r;,00O acres, is situated at Waitetuna. and Is owned by two tribes, thu Ngatimahanga and the Ngatitewehi. The meeting was called- by Mr Tai Tukare. the well-known chief of Waitetuoa, to see if ati amicable settlement of their respective shares could not be arrived at without fighting the matter out in the Land Court. Mr J. W. Browne attended the meeting ou behalf of the Native Department, and there were also present: Tai Tukare, Puke Pukaru, Moauaroa (representing the Ngatimahanga), and T. T. Rawhiti (Mahuta's secretary), Ham—ami), Hone Waitere, Taiwiri, and Te Mahara, of Waikato, representing the Ngatiwehl). A boundary was agreed upon, giving each tribe 2000 acres for a papakainga; 5000 acres was to be cut off for Mahuta and the late King Tawhiao's family, and the balance, 36,000 acres, would be thrown open for lease. A dividing boundary, starting at Vanhoutte's and going some distance south along the main ridge, and thence towards- Pirongia. Lists of the names of bona fide owners of the blocks are to be prepared, and occupation will be an important factor in deciding these matters. A meeting is to be held at Aotea in March to confirm the proceedings of this meeting, and it is expected?. the Native Minister will be present.
