THE KAURI GUM INDUSTRY.
THE YEAR'S TRADE.
During the year just closed the kauri gum market has continued very steady. A contributing factor undoubtedly is that of sam sekt in was less in 1906 than for either 1905 or 1904. The total quantity of gum sent in last year was 8602 tons, as compared with 8379 tons for the previous twelve months and 10..050 tons in 1904. A marked falling off is shown last December, when only; 668 tons of gum were sent in, as com* pared with 738 tons in 1905 and 880 ton* for the same month in 1904.
The total export of kauri gum for the year 1906 was 8699 tons, of which 4711! tons went to America, 3267 tons to London, and 721 tons to Germany. The export for 1905 was much larger, totalling 10,120 tons, of which 5743 tons went to. America, 3489 to London, and SBB to. Germany. In 1904.the total export was 8669 tons, divided as follows—America, 5127 tons; Europe, 3067 tons; and Germany, 475 tons. It will be seen that thai export last year v slightly exceeded the production of gum, being 8699, as compared with 8602 tons sent in. In 1905 the position was very different, the export being 10,120 tons, as compared with a production of 8879 tona, while in 1904 the production was 10,080 tons and the export only 8669 tons. Evidently the carry-over from 1904 was disposed of mi 1905, and the year 1906 has prettjj well balanced exports and production.
