THE KING'S BIRTHDAY.

To-morrow the 65th birthday of His Majesty King Edward VII. will, as usual, be observed as a general holiday in the City of Auckland, and caterers for public amusement have provided a liberal programme. Amongst tii9 many attractions to pleasure-seekers is the second day's racing of the Auckland Racing Club's Spring Meeting. The Eden Club are holding their At Home on the Kingsland Ground to-mor-row (Friday). Ail day matches between Grafton, Mangere, and Helensvillc, and three Eden elevens will be played, and with the additional attraction of the club's new coach, Mr. A. E. Rclf, of All England fame, who is making his first appearance on the cricket field in New Zealand, a very enjoyable day should result. Accommodation lor horses, vehicles, etc., has been provided for country visitors.

City meet Parnell on the Victoria Park ground. A large number of tennis and bowling matches will also be played.

Numerous picnics have been arranged. The Salvation Army hold their annual picnic at Takapuna; the Central Mission Christian Enueavour picnic will be held at Motu Korea, and the Helping Hand Mission will picnic at Pine Island.

The Devonport Ferry Co. anu -.orthern S.S. Company are running special excursion boats to the various favourite holiday grounds, including Heme Bay, Cowes Bay, Motutapu, St. Heller's Bay, Lake Takapuna, Rangitoto, Pine Island, Motu Korea (Brown's Island), Waiheke, Kawau and Waiwera.

The Stock Excnange will be closed from to-night until Monday. <■

The Waikato A. and P. Association's Spring Show at Hamilton, will be open, and special holiday excursion tickets are being issued by the Railway Department available for return up to Monday next.

The Auckland goods-sned will ba closed to-morrow.

There will a parade of veterans at the Drill Hall at noon, followed by luncheon. Veterans are requested to wear decorations and uniform if available.

The harbour should present a gay and festive scene, as to-morrow is the formal opening of the Yachting and Motor boat season. The yachts will assemble off the end of Queen-streev wharf at 10 o'clock under Commodore Murdoch on the yacht Ida, and after undergoing a series of evolutions will proceed in company to Maitaitai. The oil yachts of the squadron will be under the command of rearCommodore Alexander. The yachts will remain at Maitaitai for the night, and a concert will take place on shore. On Saturday there will be a race to Kawau, where Mr. Farmer will entertain the visitors, and on Sunday the yachts will return to Auckland via Waiwera.

The New Zealand Power Boat Association will open the season to-morrow by a display in the harbour, Commodore Whitley. The yachts of the association will assemble off the east side of the Railway Wharf at half-past nine a.m., and w. u take their orders from the commodore as to the procedure of the day.
