BANKRUPTCY.
A meeting of creditors in the estate of Peter Avich, an Austrian storekeeper of Wampu, was held yesterday afternoon at the official assignee's office. The assignee stated that the bankrupt's statement showed an apparent deficienev of £ .'id'i. Bankrupt saad be started in business with a capital of £217. Jiis store was burnt, and as it was uninsured, he lost heavily. He started business again, but was unable to recover. He was burnt out again. This time, he had an insurance of £200, but the. company only paid £73. He was afterwards ill in tbe hospital. Mr Gerard said the, insurance company had told him that it was agreed between the company and Avich that the latter should take £73, the assignee remarking that Avich was evidently over-in-sured. In reply to Mr Gerard the bankrupt said bis books were burnt in the fire, and his solicitor, Mr S. Skelton, further explained in regard to the over-in-surance of the stock, that it was much larger when tbe policy was taken out than subsequently. At this stage the meeting was adjourned sine die, the assignee stating that he would realise on the insurance and the assets.
