NORTHERN WAIROA HOSPITAL

-5 INSPECTOR-GEN-ESAL"S REPORT CONDEMNED. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Rgporter.) WELLINGTON., Friday. Tho member for Kaipara (Mr. Stallworthy) strongly protested in the House to-night against the statements regarding Northern Wairoa. Hospital made in the annual report of the Inspector-Gen- j eral of Hospitals. Ho moved a reduction of the vote of £11,251 for hospitals as I an indication of dissatisfaction with the j condemnatory report, declaring that the report was incorrect in stating liha-t the hospital evaded the law in carrying the ticket system. The hospital was not | a, benefit society, as alleged, and sub- j srrihers who paid 26/ annually did not | get free medical assistance, but had to pay the same as outsiders if they were treated in the hospital. The whole source of the fault-finding lay in the fact that the hospital was objected to by the British Medical Association. Mr. Stallworthy here reached his time limit, and Mr. Hcrries moved to report progress, explaining that he understood the hou. member had material for two hours' speaking, and it was then nearly 12.30 o'clock. The Premier urged the House to continue, as there was not much time, in view of the great amount of work yet to i>e done. Mr. Tanner (Avon) advised Mr. Stallworthy to hold his opportunity, hecause ' he would never get another during the j session to deal with the Inspector-Gen- j eral tor Hospitals. Other memhers, he added, wanted to deal with the same gen- i tlemp-.8. ... Mr. Hemes withdrew his motion, and . Mr. Stallworthy- continued his speech, ■ showing tliait the'hospital was doing! good work, helping .the funds of the local bodies by voluntary contributions of its subscribers, and aiso helping the work of the Department in administering to the sick. Ho announced finally that to save .time he would not move a motion on the subject.
