Morris, C.8., presided at the quarterly meeting of Court JSil Desperandum, No. 6405, Ancient Order of Foresters, held in the Foresters' Mall, Karangahaperoad, last night. There was a large attendance. Two new members were initiated. Bros. F. X. Harding and Geo. Fell were elected auditors. The receipts for the evening amounted to £160, and accounts totalling £105 4/1* were passed for payment FONSONBY BAPTIST CHUHCH BAZAAK A bazaar was opened tills afternoon under the auspices of the Ponsonby Baptist Church In aid of The church debt and In part also for tke New Zealand Baptist Missionary Society. Mr il. M. Smeeton perlormea the opening ceremony. The function Is laelcl in the I'onsonby Public Hall, which has been tastefully decorated fdr the occasion ffith ferns, palme, flowers In season, as well is tlage and bunting. A store in which are displayed curios from India and Ceylon Iβ a source of great attraction. The curios comprise Benares brass trays, vases, jardinieres, Indian carved woodwork, fire screens, Ceylon lace, glass bangles, moonstones, baskets, ivory work, porcupine boxes, etc, etc, and make a very effective display. The artistic fancy work etall certainly justifies its title. On it are displayed •every variety of articles, useful and ornamental, but always pretty. Plain needlework, variety, flower, lolly, aud refreshment stalls are also tlere. At intervals musical items, song 6? choruses, and harvest scenes lend additional enchantment to the scene, and the refreshments are served by harvesters in costume. Altogether the function is a truly delightful one, and should prove a great attraction. The bazaar will be open this evening, also to-morrow and Friday afternoons and evenings.
AVONDALE SAILING AND MOTOR BOAT CXJUIi.
Tne annual meeting of the above club was held in the Avondale Hall last night. In the absence of the president, Mr C l>. Grey, the cliair was taken by Mr B. J. Cairn. There was a good attendance of members. The annnal report stated that the club had held seven races and liad a successful season. Nearly all the owners had disposed of their sailing boats and had gone in for motor launches. There will be at least 12 launches racing in the club this year, aiid this ought to be the means of making the sport popular at that end of the harbour. The Whau River, with, its long stretches of smooth water In all weathers, ought to mate an ideal course for the smaller type of launch. The club is indebted to ilessre J. Ormoud, A. W. Page B. Bollard, P. Robertson, and J. R. Simpson for kindly- giving donations or prizes The balance-sheet showed receipts to be £39 0/1 and the expenditure £27 6/4. leaving a credit balance in hand of £11 13/ a.
