SUPERANNUATION AND ANNUITIES.
THE BILLS REFERRED TO COMMITTEE. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Eeporter.) WELiLENTGTON, Tuesday. The Premier indicated this afternoon that the National Annuities Bill and Civil Servants Superannuation Bill are to be carefully considered, and the views of all sections of the community interested taken into account before these important measures are debated in the House. He moved the second reading of both bills pro forma, and that they '. be sent to the Public Accounts Com-!-mittee to take evidence. Mr Massey suggested that as the bills were so important the evidence should be printed. The questions involved were very technical, and members ought to have all the information possible, especially from the actuaries of the Crown, as to how they would affect thefinances of the colony. The Premier: "I recognised the necessity to do what you. say." Mr Arnold (Dunedin) asked, if the Premier would consider the views of Friendly Societies. The Premier: "The committee will be glad to take evidence from any section of the community, and espec : ally Friendly Societies, which are particularly interested. lam perfectly certain it is not desirable to hurry this bill. We must cons : der it in all its aspects. It is different in some respects from the bill of the late Premier, inasmuch as it meets some of the difficulties which presented themselves from the Friendly Society po'nt of view. It was then decided to refer the bills to the Public Accounts Committee.
