On Saturday last the first match of "-tho ' second round of the cup matches of the fixtures'of the Rugby Union-was played uti Whaka_iara, between that team and Nortn Ward, North Ward being defeated Dy 9 points to 6. While playing in the above match, one of the players, James Blues, , met with an accident, by which his nose was broken, the bone being spliutered: A meeting of the North Auckland Bifle ' Association was held on Saturday evening, Captain T. H. Steadman presided. There was a good attendance, and it was decided to hold the next rifle meeting in WhangarfL This will be the fourth, meeting held by the association, one previously being held in , Whangarei; the. other two had been held at Hlknrangi and Paparoa respectively. Tho dates fixed for the present meeting being December 28th - and 29th prox. The following committee were appointed to draw up the programme, viz.: Capt. T. H. Steadman G. Clark-Walker, Staff Caiptain ■ and Adjut. Mackesy, Lleuts. Rastrick, Dee, Pearee. and Wright. Lieut. Pearee was appointed secretary. - , The chairman of the 'Wnangarei Schools Committee has received Information from / the Auckland Education Board to the effect: that arrangements nave been made for holding classes at Whangarei and Hikurangt for instruction In elementary agriculture, nature study, drawing and brickwork. .a expert instructor, Mr Vincent W. Jackson 8.A., of the Guelph Agricultural College. Ontario, Canada, has been appointed to give. a course of lessons for the Instruction or teachers. Arrangements, have been made for days of instruction at Whangarei and Hikurangi Schools. Mr C. ,T. Cockburn has been appointed instructor in art subjects, and will be located in the district, and has arranged to hold classes for teachers on tha same days but at different hours ■ Much Interestr-is being taken in the forthcoming hockey match between the local team and Thames representatives, which is to take place next Thursday afternoon.
