■« ■ I The Rev. Robertson arrived by the ' Kanieri last night from Whangarei. Mr. Lindsay, Kew Zealand Government mail agent, left for San Francisco, by the Sonoma last night. The Hon. Mahuta, M.L.C., and Mr. Henarc Kaihau, M.H.R. went South by the West Coast boat yesterday. Mr. G. A. Hodson, purser of the Sonoma, had to remain behind in Sydney, this trip, owing to his wife's serious illness. Mr H. E. Shacklock, oi Dunedin. arrived by the Rotoiti this morning, and while Tn Auckland is a guest at the Royal Hotel. Dr. Kirk, grandson of the late Professor Kirk, of Edinburgh, left for the South yesterday. It is his intention to take tip medical missionary work in China, prior to which he is touring Xcw Zealand. Afr. J. Hadyon Cardew, consulting engineer, who recently visited Geelong to prepare a scheme and report on tha sewerage system and septic tanks for that city, has now left Sydney for Dunedin, New Zealand, on a similar mission. Mr P. R. Tudehope, late of the '•"Auckland Star" litho staff, has been successful in carrying off the prize offered by the proprietor ol* the New Zealand Magazine "Vanguard" for the best design of a frontispiece and motto. Designs were received from the art schools of the four centres of the colony—Auckland, Wellington. Christchurch, and Dunedin. Air. J. T. Mair, of Wellington., left by the Sonoma last night for Sun Francisco. He intends taking a two-years' course in Pennsylvania University School of Architecture, and finishing off in Great Britain. He will specially devote himself to the study of skeleton steel and concrete construction, a system of building that has already been established in Xcw Zealand, and should soon be popular. Mr. Samuel Shrimpton. an old and highly esteemed resident of Coromandel, died on Sunday at the residence of his son-in-law (Air. J, Chapman), Tiki-road. He had resided in the district for upwards of thirty years, having been engaged for the past twenty years in farming pursuits at Awakanac. His wife predeceased him by a few months. The funeral took place on Monday at Buffalo cemetery, Mr. M. -J. Evans conI ducting the service. The deceased leaves ■ a grown-up family. __—_———
