CRIMPING AT NEWCABTLE
SENSATIONAL REVELATIONS. MOTION FOR ADJOURNMENT. (By CaWev—Fress Association.— Copyrtftrt-T 9-36 a.m.) * SYDNEY, this day. In the Legislative Assembly a motion for adjournment was discussed on the question of crimping at Newcastle. Mr. O'Sullivan made some startling statements, and, among others, declared that 75 per cent of the boardinghouses of Newcastle were crimping dens. Masters ! of ocean-going steamers were in league with the agents ashore, and men were shanghaied and robbed wholesale. Other members supported these statements. THE PREMIER'S REPLY. IMPERIAL GOVERNMENT'S PROTEST. (Received 9.43 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. The Premier admitted that gross abuses prevailed. The Imperial Government had protested against the abuses prevailing in Sydney and Newcastle. The Government was considering a scheme to overcome the abuses, but it would not be judicious to give the details at present.
