POMPALLIER TERRACE.
A BIG SCHEME. Reporting to the Auckland City Council last evening on a petition from Pom-pallier-terraeo residents for the extension of their street through to Johnstreet, the city engineer stated that he could not recommend the Council to undertake the extension for the following reasons:—(l) That the extension to John-ptreet would not be of sufficient advantage and convenience to the ratepayers of the city generally and the inhabitants of that part of the city to justify the large expenditure; (2) that Painpallier-terraee is not a blind street, as stated in -the petition; (3) that the proposed extension would confer a large amount of benefit on the owners of pro perties through which the proposed extension would run, and if carried out should be done at their expense.
The Streets Committee recommended that the petitioners interview the owners of the intervening property.
Replying to a question of Councillor Parr, the engineer said the cost of construction was estimated at about £ 1500, in addition to the cost of the land.
Councillor Parr pointed out tHat 300 or 400 residents felt that hi 3 work •was a very important one. He suggested that the owners should be approached and asked on what terms they would give the land.
Councillors Court and Entrican thought the people interested were the right ones to approach the owners.
Councillor Parr: That ie what I want,
It was agreed to reply suggesting accordingly*
