ST. PATRICK'S CATHEDRAL.

Tho proposed alterations tp St. Patrick's Cathedral will cost about £5000, this being the amount of the tender accepted to-day by the architects, Messrs E. Mahoney and Sons. The successful tenderers were Messrs Ferguson and Malcolm, Yvho tendered £4973 for the alterations to the building, and £35 for a small spire which is to be erected at the intersection of the transepts and the nave. Guthrie, spire £105, building £52G0; W. E. Hutchison, spire £25, building £5283; W. Phileox and Son, spire £93, building £5293; J. H. Colebourne, spire £115, building £5395; Craig Bros., spire £117, building £5393; J. T. Julian, spire £175, building £5797; W. Fairweather, spire £ 02, . building & 5872. In a number of the tenders the price for the spire included the plumbing -work, which was not' asked Jor. The specifications provide that the old portion of the church forming the trancepts is to be pulled down, and a new and enlarged building erected in its place. The northern end behind the high altar will be extended to the boundary, and ithe two wings will also be built out to the edge of the allotment. A spire will be placed at the intersection of the tranc'eptAand nave, and at this point in the interior there will be four beautiful , I arches.
