MEN ON THE NORTHCOTE FERRY.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I notice a letter from '"Hopeful" complaining of that obnoxious creature, man. who has the temerity to enter the ladies' sanctum on the ferry boats. Now. as a passenger for many years, I frankly admit that [ do occasionally travel in the so-called ladies' cabin. But. sir, may 1 ask what is a mere man to do when he abominates tobacco smoke, and finds on entering the men's cabin that there are 20 or 30 filthy pipes in full blast, and an atmosphere—well, anything but cleanly? J.- there any wonder that hn takes refuge in the ladies' cabin? As to men taking up the sitting room and leaving ladies to stand, I may state that neve" once to my knowledge has that occurred; at Jrast. I have never seen it. lam afraid "Hopeful" i*. rather overshooting the mark in that respect.—l am. etc., W.H.C.
