ACCIDENT ON A BARQUE.
The second officer of the barque Anglo-Norman, a Norwegian named O. Olsen, met with a serious accident this morning. Olsen was standing near the hatch supervising the loading of kauri gum, when he was struck in the back by a sling, the force of the blow being so great that he was thrown into the hold, a drop of 15 feet. He was picked up in a dazed condition. His head was bruised and Dr. Barclay, who was. called in, feared that he had also received injuries to his spine. Olsen was removed to the hospital, where it has been ascertained that he has received some internal injuries in the region of the abdomen, the exact nature of which it is at present impossible to say. It is not considered, however, that they are very serious. A curious coincidence is that when the Anglo-Norman was last in Auckland, about two years ago, the then second mate was killed as the result of an accident on the vessel which now occupies the same bertn, namely, Quaystreet Jetty.
