MERCER.
The- first entertainment by the newlyformed aßnd of Hope was given In the local schoolroom on Friday evening, In the presence of a large and apprtciatJve audience. A capital programme -was presented. Miss Emily Carter and Masters H. and T. Lee recited; while songs were given by Mesdames J. Harrison and Brurce Elliot, and Messrs Gibb, Gillon and A. Elliot, and a vtclin solo by Mr Sargent Addresses were given by the Rev. Norrle. Mr M-ca-dermott (aecretaary of the Auckland Band of Hope Union), and Mr C. Gibb (president of the Mercer Band of Hope). A dialogue, "Miss Spriggins' Work," was given with great effect by Miss C. Hunter, Mrs JHarrison, and Mrs Gibb. TOKA /OKA. The creameries in this locality closed down on May 31st, after a very successful season. The new ertamery at Lower Ranpo is now being built, and will be In working order next Septemhec. The White Pine Company at Naumai mill are erecting more houses for their employees. This township is porgresslng at at a more rapid rate than any other on the eastern aide ef. tie rivmr.
