The Governor of Hongkong has written tc Mr. Deakin promising to do all in his power to stop the re-bagging of American Hour and the selling of it as Australan. The Customs officials of Hongkong, writes his Excellency, have the matter in hand.

The wheelers in the Hetton colliery have struck for an increase of pay, and the wheelers and trappers in the Sealiam pit have given fourteen days , notice. FEEE EDUCATION FOR NEW SOUTH WALES. (Received 9.33 ajn.) SYDNEY, this day. Mr. Camithers' proposals for the coming session include the making of education in the schools free, involving a eurrender of £90,000 of revenue.

Asked if he would place a sum on the Estimates for the famiUes of the late •John Farrell and the late Victor Daly, Mr. Deakin said the question of recognising, as was done in Great Britain, the claims of eminent 1 terary men and their families was worthy of consideration. Geniuses were few, and as during their liveF they were rarely rewarded pecuniarilj. he thought their families had a claim for consideration by the Government.
ENERGY-ELECTRA COLLISION.
SYDNEY, June 19. The Marine Court to-day gave its findj ings in regard to the recent collision bej tween the steamer Energy and t he tug I Electra. It finds that the lights on the , Energy were not burning brightly enough, and that the deck hand m eiiarge of the Energy failed to see the tug Electra, owing probably to being askep at his post, the result of his having been on i duty an unreasouably long time. The Court exonerates the captains of both the Electra and the En-Tgy in connection with the collision, but expresses the opinion that tugs should carry it least one certificated officer in addition to the master. I ' (Received 9.33 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. Th-j owners of the Energy are claiming £3000 for the loss of the tug through collision with the Electra. and the owners of the latter maka a counterclaim for i 750 damage to the steamer.
