Jeff ay ' Commissioner for the I( j Q ( Trade (of Great Britain), in yy/38 to the Melbourne Chamber of stated that he had obtained o.ete schedules showing the course of ports both in the Commonwealth and w Zealand for 25 years past, and had cumulated a great deal of information. When seeking to trace the cause of the wline of British imports into Austrai&. he had always been met with the oswer that British manufacturers did aot seem inclined to make what their customers wanted, but the Germans and others were ready to make anything that Ms required.
