i HOSPITAL BOARD REFERENCES. ■ At the usual meeting of the Auckland ! Hospital aud Charitable Aid Board to~ iday the chairman, Mr. John McLeod re- ! ferred to the death oE the late Premier. Mr. McLeod stated that since the last meeting, anticipating the wishes of the | Board, he had telegraphed to the Hon, Hall-Jones regarding the death of Mr. Seddon. He believed that he had correctly anticipated their wishes, because : all shades of political opinion deeply regretted ihe loss the colony had sustained. Mr. McLeod read the telegram j which lie had forwarded and the reply 'be had received, ns previously published. IHo moved that hi- action be approved. j This was seconded by Mr. L. J. Bagnall •and curried. It was further agreed to j close Ihe oilier on Thursday afternoon, I the day of tre funeral. ! The Deputy-Mayor, Mr. C. Grey, and i Mr. H. W. Wilson (Town Clerk), loft by the West Coast, boat yesterday to represent the city at the Premier's funeral on Thursday next at Wellington. The following telegram has been sent I the Premier: "The Auckland branch of : the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants desires to express its deep regret at the death of the Premier, and . the irreparable loss sustained by Ihc ' Empire, also its rno>t sincere sympathy i with his family." THE MEMORIAL SERVICES, (To the Editor:) Sir?! —No doirbt the above, feexvicea I which will be held on the day the late : evep-to-be-remembered Premier is buried will bo very largely nt tended, and 1 venture to suggest that a, collection he made so as to at once start a ; permanent memorial fund for our city. I A very large sum should be collected ion teat day, and in my hnmble opinion it would be a very great mistake to j allow such an opportunity to pass. Each j church could retain the amount nntil j such tome as a proper executive is «p- ---| pointed to carry ottt the desired and | necessary project. Commending this j suggestion to those having the arrangeI ments in hand.—T am, etc., j ' R.H.A.P, (To the Editor.) Sir,—-I see the Veterans arc to parade with the Volunteers on the day of the funeral of our flQenly-lamcntcd Premier. Wotdd it not be possible to also | inehidp the School Cadets in the parI ade? It would have a lasting effect on j their young minds, and might be the j means of creating a desire amongst j some of them to emulate and follow in j the footsteps of the departed. If the j Church St. Matthew's is too small— | which I am sure it will be—to accom- | modate all who would desire to be prej sent, providing the day be fine, could I not the Albert Park or" the Government House grounds be utilised for the occa= ; sion?—l am, ete.j j VETERAN. j ''Mourner - ' writes suggesting that as a j token of respect to the late Mr. Scddbn ; the citizens of Auckland should wear a* j bla<ck tie or other token of mourning 011 | Thursday, being the day of his funeral.
