The visiting and local members and fanciers were present in large numbers, and the function proved in every respect as successful as ita predecessors. ' In response to the toast "The Visiting Eanders," proposed by the vice-president, (ilr J. Tonar), Messrs W. Scott, of the Thames, F. Goodacre, o£ New Plymouth, and T. Snow, of Waihi, spoke; the first-named gentleman emphasising; the necessity of giving increased attention to type for bringing about the most satisfactory results, and also advocating the appointment of a greater number oi judges in the different sections. Reply ing to the toast of "Toe Judges," proposed by Mr J. Hopkins, Mr A. Walker, of Christchureh, complimented the Auckland Association on the excellence of its show, which was a distinct credit to the colony, some of the classes containing j birds he had not seen equalled elsewhere. Mr J. Mason, of Whangarei, and Mr T. W. Brown, of Auckland, also responded. The toast "The Gorernxnent Expert" was .proposed by the president, and in responding, Mr Hyde spoke in. congratulatory terms of the association's efforts, to encourage a higher standard in breeding. With regard to poultry, he. had been for some time devoting very consider- . able attention to the improvement of ! poultry, and the results were in every respect encouraging. Auckland especially had made immense strides, and the result had determined him to devote still more attention to the North Island. In the course of the evening musical ' and other items wera given by Messrs Atkinson, Palmer, Abrahams, White- ; house, Nicholls and Walker.
