OBSTRUCTING THE THOROUGHFARE.
At the.Police Court yesterday afternoon several bookmakers and others were charged with wilfully \ obstructing the .footpath in Vulcan LaneJ Mr Reed, who defended, suggested that the cases should be adjourned pending the hearing of the appeal against the decision of the magistrate in the cases under the same section of . the Police Offences Act, in which fines were imposed. Sergeant Hendry objected to a remand unless defendants would give an undertaking that they would not obstruct the thorough fare until the decision of Mr Justice Edwards were givenl Mis' Reed said that ,he would advise his clients to follow this course. Sergeant Hendry stated that the police were well advised to take .proceedings under the section they had used prior to his Worshiup's decision.
